About Lula
Lula (she/her/ella) is a theatre director, producer, and sometimes writer from Buenos Aires, Argentina, currently based in Southern California. She grew up in a small house where tables and chairs of different shapes and sizes were brought together every weekend to form one big table for family and friends to gather around, during lunches that turned into dinners. Lula is committed to creating that same sense of community in her rehearsal rooms, where everyone brings something to the table to share, enjoy, and challenge one another.
Lula’s experience with devised theatre, new work, and co-directing deeply influences how she guides creative processes, with collaboration at the heart of her practice. She centers joy, playful exploration, and risk-taking. Lula strives to push the boundaries of theatrical form, creating powerful moments through the unique talents and skills of her collaborators, as well as through elements like movement, sound, and props that become as vital as the text itself.
Lula received her BA in Theatre Arts from UC San Diego, where she was recognized with the Jorge Huerta Spirit Award and the Jacob and Rita Bronowski Theatre Prize. She was selected to develop and co-direct Letters to Home, an interactive devised theatre piece, for the Without Walls (WOW) Festival 2024, as part of a new partnership between La Jolla Playhouse and UCSD.
Most recently, Lula created and directed Goldilocks Screentime, her second production for the La Jolla Playhouse WOW Festival 2025.
Lula is a 2026 Lin-Manuel Miranda Family Fellow and served as the Artistic Intern at La Jolla Playhouse during the 2024–2025 season. She has also trained at The Eugene O’Neill Theater Center’s National Theater Institute Theatermakers Intensive in Directing and at the Kennedy Center Directing Intensive.
